SUPPORTING A SMOOTH START

At The Playhouse Nursery, we understand that every child and family is unique. Starting nursery is a big step, and we use our experience to make the transition as calm, positive, and personal as possible. Our aim is to help both you and your child feel comfortable, supported, and ready to enjoy nursery life.

Getting Started – Settling-In Sessions

To help your child adjust gradually, we offer five settling-in sessions spread across five days. These sessions are usually arranged prior to your child's official start date.

Your child’s Key Person will complete a short record after each visit so we can monitor how your child is adapting and plan any additional support they may need.

• Session One: Around two hours long. This is a gentle introduction to nursery life. You’ll meet your child’s Key Person and share information about your child’s interests, routines, and needs while discussing the “All About Me” form together. During this time, your child can explore their new environment, play with some favourite toys, and start meeting other children.
• Session Two and Beyond: The second session lasts around two hours, and each following visit increases by one hour per day.

Building Connections – The Key Person Approach

At The Playhouse Nursery, we believe children settle best when they form a strong bond with a familiar adult who truly understands them. Every child is assigned a Key Person from their very first session to help them feel safe, supported, and secure in their new surroundings.

Your child’s Key Person will:

• Take time to get to know both your child and your family, building a warm and trusting relationship.
• Share information with the wider nursery team to make sure your child’s individual needs and preferences are always understood and met.
• Observe, plan, and support your child’s learning and development, providing opportunities that encourage growth, confidence, and curiosity.
